Police Dog Stryker Tracks Suspects after Murrumba Downs Chaos

A police dog helped bring two men into custody after an alleged dangerous driving incident caused panic in the Murrumba Downs area. Stryker, a Queensland Police service dog, tracked the suspects through bushland after they ran from a dumped vehicle, ending a tense chase that had stretched across multiple suburbs.

Trouble on the Bruce Highway

The trouble began in Murrumba Downs, where a quiet afternoon was shattered by reports of shots fired from a passing car on the Bruce Highway. People going about their day suddenly found themselves caught near a chaotic police operation, and within minutes, officers were tracking a black Commodore speeding away from the scene.

It was just after 1:20 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, when calls were received by Queensland Police. Patrol units responded quickly and spotted the vehicle near the northbound Murrumba Downs exit. But instead of stopping, the car allegedly took off, setting in motion a chase that would stretch across multiple suburbs and bring in air and ground support.

Chase Across the Northside

The Commodore moved north toward Morayfield, turned around at some point, and was later seen weaving through Carseldine and other northern suburbs. A tyre deflation device was laid out near Mount Samson, and though it hit its mark, the car kept moving. Eventually, it was abandoned on Watson Road in Armstrong Creek.

Police say the two men inside jumped out and made a run for it. That’s when the search on foot began, with officers calling in their four-legged colleague.

Enter Stryker the Police Dog

Stryker, a trained police dog with the Queensland Dog Squad, was released into the area to assist. He picked up the scent and led officers through the nearby bushland. It didn’t take long before both suspects were found.

The arrest didn’t come without injury—one of the men, 26-year-old Adam James Rae Slade, was bitten during the takedown and had to be taken to Royal Brisbane Hospital for surgery. Police later described the injuries as “traumatic”.

Charges and Court Appearances

Slade, from Bli Bli, and the second man, Tyger Jack Titmarsh of Greenbank, both 26, now face a list of serious charges. These include unlawful use of a motor vehicle, obstructing police, possession of suspected stolen items, and endangering the safe use of vehicles—a charge that can carry a life sentence.

Police said the men allegedly threw a tyre and released a fire extinguisher into traffic during the chase, endangering drivers on the Bruce Highway.

No firearms were recovered from the car, and no one was injured by gunfire, but investigations are still underway.

Court Delays and Next Steps

Slade was too injured to appear in Pine Rivers Magistrates Court the following day, and his case was postponed to Friday. Titmarsh did attend court on July 24, but his solicitor did not apply for bail. His next appearance has been scheduled for September 18, with police ordered to hand over their brief of evidence by September 3.

Community on Alert

Back in Murrumba Downs, residents were left rattled by the sudden police presence, traffic disruption and reports of gunfire. While there’s no ongoing threat to the community, Queensland Police are encouraging anyone with dashcam footage or CCTV from the day to come forward as investigations continue.

What began with a report of gunfire ended with a four-legged officer doing what he was trained to do—find the suspects and help keep the community safe.

Murrumba Downs Sisters Bag $100k Windfall While Running Errands

Two sisters from Murrumba Downs were stunned to discover they’d picked up a $100,000 cash prize, and they only found out while out doing the shopping.

From Disbelief To Excitement

The winning ticket came from a Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot draw, but the sisters had no idea they were holding a winner until they dropped into a local outlet during a routine day of errands. One of them described their reaction as sheer disbelief, initially assuming the result couldn’t be real.

According to The Lott, the pair had secured a guaranteed first prize, and their reaction said it all. They stared at the screen in silence before the news sank in. One of them reportedly exclaimed “Holy crap!” when they realised the truth, a moment now shared widely online.

The sisters later confirmed they’d double-checked the results several times before celebrating. Even then, they admitted it still felt “a bit unreal.”

Local Sisters Plan To Ease Life Pressures

For the Murrumba Downs locals, the prize means more than just a lucky break. They said their first priority is paying down debts and giving themselves some financial breathing room. A relaxing holiday is also on the cards, something they haven’t been able to do in years.

They made it clear the windfall wouldn’t change them. Instead, they viewed it as a moment of relief and a chance to step back from some of life’s daily pressures. One of the sisters noted the timing “couldn’t have been better.”

Just Another Normal Day — Until It Wasn’t

It all started like any other day, the women explained. While out and about, they decided to check their ticket on the off chance it had won something. That quick decision turned into the surprise of a lifetime.

The Lucky Lotteries draw had been held earlier in the week, but the women only realised their win later when scanning the ticket. The win wasn’t just about the money,  it was about the sense of unexpected joy and release it brought to their day.

Community Reaction Full Of Good Vibes

Murrumba Downs locals have welcomed the news, with many saying it’s great to see the prize go to people from their own area.

While the sisters chose to stay anonymous, they said they were grateful not just for the money, but for the kind words and support from the community, a moment they’ll always remember.

Murrumba Downs Teenager Earns Recognition for Extraordinary Community Service

Tristan Kolio, a young State Emergency Service volunteer from Murrumba Downs, has been nominated for the QBANK Everyday Heroes Award, in recognition of his exceptional efforts during the devastating floods that affected his community.

Discovering the SES was a turning point, and joining was his best decision ever.

For Kolio, the most significant reward is offering support during people’s most challenging moments. He believes the initial contact is critical, as they often deal with people on one of the worst days of their lives. Seeing someone in an orange uniform brings them a sense of relief. He understands that he might never fully comprehend his impact, even if it’s just being there to listen.

Kolio’s contributions extend beyond operational response. He actively engages in community education and fosters cultural understanding. His primary focus involves creating and managing media content to educate the public for the Moreton Bay SES Unit.

As a member of the Volunteer Consultative Committee, he represents SES volunteers across the state, ensuring their voices are heard and driving positive change. He’s also passionate about championing diversity. By sharing his Polynesian heritage, he can support people from his culture and inspire others to join.

The QBANK Everyday Heroes Award nomination fills Kolio with pride. He feels truly honoured that someone took the time to nominate him. Although he doesn’t seek recognition, this nomination encourages him to continue his work.

Couple Reunited With Cat They Lost in Murrumba Downs 10 Years Ago

A former Murrumba Downs local received the most surprising news of her life when someone from RSPCA Dakabin called to inform her that they found Simba, her cat who slipped out of their house and disappeared 10 years ago!

Back then, Kaitlin Thrupp lived in Murrumba Downs with her partner Shaun and two-year-old Simba, when he escaped their home. The local RSPCA helped Kaitlin and Shaun track Simba down as he was microchipped. They also distributed flyers and knocked on neighbours’ doors.

A few years later, the couple then moved to Narangba 15 minutes away but Kaitlin never lost any hope of finding Simba. She would usually drive to Murrumba Downs in case she spots the cat on the streets. Kaitlin also kept the microchip records updated as local rescue groups have been monitoring the ginger cat as well.

In December 2021, Kaitlin finally got the unexpected call from RSPCA Dakabin informing the family that they picked up their orange cat as a stray and scanned for a microchip.

The Thrupps do not have any idea where Simba has been for the last 10 years but he definitely remembered his family. He came over to them and did his usual greeting when  Kaitlin arched her hands so he could bump his head.

Kaitlin said that she has been a big advocate for microchipping since it became a legal requirement for pet owners in Brisbane. Her reunion with Simba reiterates just how important this is for families with pets.
