Eatons Hill Designer Creates Human Hair Outfit for Chappell Roan

Eatons Hill designer Connor O’Grady has gained global attention after creating a human hair outfit worn by US pop singer Chappell Roan in her music video The Subway.

Chappell Roan Collaboration

In 2025, O’Grady was commissioned by stylist Genesis Webb to design an outfit for Chappell Roan’s single The Subway. He produced a bra and skirt ensemble constructed from human hair, sourced from theatrical shops in West End and dyed to match the singer’s auburn hair.

Courier delays left the finished piece stranded in London, forcing O’Grady to personally fly it to New York. The video, released on 1 August 2025, featured Roan wearing the design on a fire escape overlooking Hudson Street. Fashion press described the look as straddling the line between showgirl fantasy and Victorian ghost story.

Early Roots in Eatons Hill

O’Grady grew up in Eatons Hill, Brisbane, where his interest in sewing began in childhood. By the age of eight, he had trademarked his label and won the Royal Queensland Show’s Natural Fibres competition. He went on to secure multiple awards at the Ekka, including victories in both children’s and adult sections by 2013.

His achievements expanded nationally, winning the Apex Australia Teenage Fashion Designer of the Year in 2015 and the Australian Wool Fashion Awards in 2016 and 2017. By 17, he was creating custom designs for the Ekka fashion parades.

From Brisbane to London

In 2018, O’Grady accepted a place at the London College of Fashion to study womenswear. During his time there, his designs were featured in Vogue Scandinavia, and by 2024 he had been shortlisted for the British Vogue Future Creators Design Competition.

Now based in Islington, London, O’Grady continues to return to Brisbane annually, including as a fashion judge at the Ekka. His work often draws inspiration from historical eras such as Victorian, Georgian and Regency periods, while incorporating deadstock fabrics and antiques.

Building New Collections

Alongside freelance commissions, O’Grady is working on his debut collection titled Decapitation, inspired by the French Revolution. The collection explores high necklines, colour blocking and distressed fabrics to reflect themes of upheaval from that era.

Sustainability is central to his approach, with a focus on extending the life cycle of materials and encouraging upcycling of garments.

Looking Ahead

At just 24, O’Grady has emerged as one of Australia’s most promising fashion designers, balancing high-profile collaborations like the Chappell Roan commission with his own conceptual work. He has expressed ambitions to showcase full collections at London Fashion Week and establish a boutique in the future, while maintaining strong ties to his Eatons Hill beginnings.

Eatons Hill Unite for Family Left with Nothing After Blaze

An Eatons Hill family with three children is starting again after a house fire destroyed their home and car, and the community is moving quickly to help the parents, Terry and Jess, get back on their feet.

The family’s verified GoFundMe fundraiser went live on August 6, 2025, created by a relative, Leah, to cover urgent needs such as temporary housing, clothing, food and school supplies.

Reports say the blaze tore through the family’s Eatons Hill home within minutes, taking treasured belongings along with everyday essentials and their vehicle. The fundraiser explains that everyone made it out safely, but the loss was near total. It sets out simple aims: keep the children settled, replace basics and help the family rebuild step by step.

Schools and Neighbours Step In

Two of the children, Isabella and Layla, attend Albany Creek State High, and their younger brother is a student at Samford State School. In a message to families, Albany Creek State High invited the school community to contribute and share the fundraiser so help reaches the people who need it most.

Neighbours also amplified the call, encouraging residents in Eatons Hill and nearby suburbs to spread the word and donate if they can.

How You Can Help

Donations through the verified GoFundMe will go toward accommodation, clothing, food, school needs and other essentials while the family secures stable housing and begins to replace what was lost. If giving isn’t possible, sharing the fundraiser with friends, local groups and sports clubs can still make a real difference by keeping support flowing.

This story is about more than a fire. It is about a suburb pulling together so children can return to class with what they need and parents can focus on the next steps. School posts and community shares show a clear message: when hardship hits in Eatons Hill, people look out for one another .

Australian Motörhead fans are finally getting the show they have waited for, as legendary guitarist Phil Campbell brings a set full of classics and new material to the stage at Eatons Hill for the very first time.

A Rock Icon Arrives Down Under

The band will begin in Perth on the 16 September before performing in Adelaide on the 17th. Queensland fans get their chance when the tour arrives in Brisbane on the 19 September, followed by shows in Sydney on the 20th and a final stop in Melbourne on the 21st.

Honouring A Heavy Metal History

For over three decades, from 1984 until Lemmy Kilmister’s passing in 2015, Phil Campbell served as the lead guitarist for Motörhead. He was a vital part of the band’s most stable and longest-lasting lineup. His sharp, aggressive guitar work helped to modernise the band’s sound on classic albums such as Orgasmatron and Inferno, and he co-wrote many fan favourites. Campbell’s calm and professional presence was known to balance Lemmy’s famous persona, making him a cornerstone of the group’s incredible history.

A New Chapter with The Bastard Sons

Following the end of Motörhead, Campbell formed a new musical project with the people he knew best: his sons. Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons features Todd on guitar, Tyla on bass, and Dane on drums, creating a powerful family-driven rhythm section.

Joined by powerhouse vocalist Joel Peters, the band has earned its own formidable reputation. They have performed blistering sets at huge European festivals like Wacken and Hellfest and even supported their famous fans, Guns N’ Roses. Their debut album, The Age of Absurdity, won a Metal Hammer Golden Gods Award, cementing their status as a celebrated act in their own right.

The Sound of Then and Now

Concertgoers can expect a performance that honours the past while celebrating the present. The band’s setlist is a dynamic mix of Motörhead classics and the group’s own acclaimed material. Recent performances in Europe have included timeless Motörhead anthems such as “Ace of Spades,” “Going to Brazil,” and “Killed by Death,” played alongside the Bastard Sons’ own popular tracks like “We’re the Bastards” and “High Rule.” This blend ensures a show that delivers both fierce nostalgia and fresh, hard-hitting rock.

Daniel Seavey’s ‘Second Wind’ Tour Set to Conclude in Eatons Hill

US singer-songwriter Daniel Seavey is set to perform at Eatons Hill as part of his upcoming Australian headline tour supporting his debut solo album, “Second Wind.”

From Surprise Gigs to Centre Stage

Daniel Seavey, the multi-platinum US singer, songwriter, and producer, is returning to Australia for a headline tour in June 2025. Following a successful visit in late 2024—where he supported Dean Lewis across Australia and New Zealand—Mr Seavey will bring his Second Wind Tour to major cities, culminating with a performance at Eatons Hill Hotel in Brisbane on Sunday, 15 June.

His previous trip to Australia saw sold-out shows, surprise park performances, and pop-up events in record stores. Notably, Mr Seavey also made appearances at events like the Australian premiere of Wicked and even performed for Pesto the Penguin.

Second Wind: A Sonic Reboot

The tour supports Seavey’s debut solo album “Second Wind,” which features singles including “Gateway Drug”, “The Older You Get”, “Other People”, and “If I Ever Get to Heaven”. The album is the product of a collaborative effort with producer Michael Pollack, known for work with Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber, and reflects a diverse range of musical influences from early 2000s pop-rock.

Speaking about his work, Mr Seavey explained that the album represents a shift from the structured sound of his former band Why Don’t We, allowing space for personal experimentation and genre exploration. Many of the album’s tracks, including the more introspective ones, stemmed from Mr Seavey’s reflections on resilience, optimism, and personal growth.

Mr Seavey is also producing much of his music himself, often drawing inspiration from everyday sounds and events. This hands-on approach shapes his creative freedom and gives his work a uniquely personal feel.

Eatons Hill Community Rallies with Coffee Fund for Essential Workers in Cyclone Recovery Efforts

Residents of Eatons Hill collectively raised $1,825 overnight, with more coming in, to provide essential workers with free coffee as a show of appreciation for their tireless efforts in preparing for and responding to Cyclone Alfred.

Community Initiative Launched

The initiative began within the Eatons Hill and Albany Creek Community Facebook Group, spearheaded by administrator Cassie Alexander. The aim was to create a community fund, or “kitty,” to purchase drinks for those working long hours during the severe weather event. This included emergency service personnel, retail workers, healthcare professionals, and volunteers such as State Emergency Service (SES) members.

The community wanted to show gratitude to those who ensured the safety and provision of essential services during this challenging time. Alexander expressed that these workers were under significant pressure and working extended hours to support the community’s needs.

Fund Distribution and Cafe Partnerships

The funds collected are being distributed to local cafes, including Cafe63 Eatons Hill and Whisk & Grind Cafe at White Horse Ranch. Workers in uniform can obtain a complimentary drink from these establishments.

Whisk & Grind Cafe also accepted direct donations at their location, and White Horse Ranch matched the initial donation of $100. Alexander provided her bank account details for those wishing to contribute, promising transparency in using the funds.

Future Community Support Plans

Alexander indicated that she plans to establish a non-profit community assistance program. This would allow for tax-deductible donations, facilitating ongoing support for local workers. She conveyed that the community’s response had been overwhelmingly positive and expressed gratitude to all who had contributed.

Bunya Park Sanctuary in Eatons Hill: A Lost Wildlife Haven

Eatons Hill residents of a certain age will remember the Bunya Park Sanctuary, a popular wildlife park and zoo that operated in their suburb for over 25 years but ultimately closed its doors, leaving a legacy of community involvement and environmental change.

Once a cherished local attraction, the sanctuary provided a home for Australian animals like dingoes, emus, koalas, kangaroos, and wombats.

Early Years and Community Spirit

Established in 1968, the privately owned Bunya Park Sanctuary quickly became a destination for families and animal lovers.  Located on Bunya Pine Court, the park allowed visitors to get up close to native Australian wildlife.  A maze near the car park provided extra fun for visitors.

News reports from the time show a strong community connection to the park, with numerous articles detailing local efforts to support and save the sanctuary.  These reports suggest a deep affection for the park and its animals.

Relocation and Closure

Despite community efforts, the Bunya Park Sanctuary eventually relocated to Yandina on the Sunshine Coast, near the Ginger Factory.  As reported in local papers, this move was accompanied by advertising promoting the new location.

Once bustling with activity, the Eatons Hill site was then partially subdivided for residential development in 1996-97.  However, the Pine Rivers Shire Council acquired a portion of the land, recognised for its environmental significance.

A New Chapter: Kumbartcho Sanctuary

Bunya Park Sanctuary

This environmentally sensitive land became the foundation for the Kumbartcho Sanctuary, a six-hectare flora and fauna reserve situated on the banks of the South Pine River.  Operated by volunteers and staff and owned by the City of Moreton Bay, Kumbartcho Sanctuary carries on the spirit of Bunya Park, providing a space for wildlife and environmental education.

While not the original Bunya Park, Kumbartcho offers families a chance to connect with nature through activities like painting, puzzles, and planting, as well as features such as a suspension bridge and a fairy garden.

Kumbartcho Sanctuary, located at 15 Bunya Pine Ct, Eatons Hill, offers educational programs for schools and includes a community nursery and koala viewing deck. It is open Tuesday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM and Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

The Legacy of Bunya Park

The story of Bunya Park Sanctuary reflects the changing landscape of Queensland’s tourist attractions.  While the original park is gone, its legacy lives on in the memories of those who visited and the Kumbartcho Sanctuary, which continues to protect local flora and fauna.
