The event will bring BKFC’s bare-knuckle format to Queensland, with Eatons Hill Hotel confirmed as the venue and doors scheduled to open at 5pm. BKFC founder and president David Feldman is also expected to attend the Brisbane event.
From Philadelphia to Brisbane
Based in Philadelphia and led by Feldman, BKFC says it was the first promotion in the United States since 1889 to hold a legal, sanctioned, and regulated bare-knuckle event.
The organisation uses its own rules and stages bouts in a four-rope circular ring known as the BKFC “Squared Circle”. Unlike conventional boxing, fighters do not compete with traditional boxing gloves. BKFC’s rules allow wrapping and taping around the wrist, thumb and mid-hand, but prohibit gauze or tape within one inch of the knuckles.
The format also includes the promotion’s “Toe The Line” opening. Two lines three feet apart are marked in the centre of the ring, with fighters starting each round with their front foot on the line before the referee signals the beginning of the bout.
BKFC said the scratch lines in its ring are based on the Broughton Rules, which governed bare-knuckle fighting in the 19th century. The organisation says its ruleset is designed to preserve elements of bare-knuckle fighting’s history while emphasising fighter safety.
Eatons Hill prepares for fight night
At Eatons Hill Hotel, BKFC is promoting the event around its live production, including fighter walkouts, lighting and the atmosphere surrounding the bouts.
The October show represents the promotion’s second Australian event, according to Fight News Australia, following its earlier Australian appearance. For the Eatons Hill venue, the event will add a combat sports production to its program of live entertainment.
