The Claire’s Cottage Community Garage Sale will be held on Saturday, October 10 and Sunday, 11 October 2026. Every dollar raised will go towards sustaining the pantry during its busiest time of year. Good-quality pre-loved donations are also welcome in the lead-up to the event.
The pantry supports people experiencing cost-of-living pressures, including retirees, people with disability, and local families doing it tough. For adults with intellectual disability who attend Claire’s Cottage, the pantry is also an opportunity to take an active role in their community. Participants help sort donations, check stock and assist with providing food and essentials to people who use the service.
Participants At The Heart Of Pantry Work

Claire’s Cottage Manager Julie Gerstel said the work was helping challenge perceptions about the contribution people with disability can make.
“It’s about changing the perception of what people with disability can contribute,” she said. “Our participants are actively giving back to their community, and they’re incredibly proud of that. Community is at the heart of everything we do at Claire’s Cottage.”
Claire’s Cottage’s community work had attracted media attention, as well as a nomination for a Queensland Community Achievement Award.
The Golden Valley Keperra Lions Club will also be on hand during the weekend to run a sausage sizzle. People attending the garage sale can browse pre-loved items while helping raise funds for the Community Pantry, which supports people experiencing cost-of-living pressures. The funds will help keep the pantry stocked ahead of the Christmas period.
