Work in progress

ACE still have some way to go, warns central defender Sean Lewis
THE statistics look good – ACE have won three successive games, two with clean sheets. They are also third on the Premier League ladder with one of just two remaining a perfect records.
But, before Saturday’s clash with second-placed UQ at Wolter Park, kick-off 5pm, central defender Sean Lewis, pictured against The Gap, warned: “On the field, I believe we’re not there yet.”
ACE were in command of their opening 2-0 victory over The Gap, beat Bethania 6-3 in the FFA Cup and then left it late to overcome Acacia Ridge 1-0.
“We a difficult pre-season, but the stakes have gone up and players are recognising it doesn’t matter if you are BPL, NPL, Capital 1 or 2, you have to show up on the day,” said the 27-year-old American.
“There are certain things we can work on, eliminating mistakes, understanding our roles, doing our jobs. When we do that it’s like poetry in motion.
“At times when we’re looking slow and lethargic we need to turn things up, turn up the intensity. But

Stand-in captain Declan Morris outlines key for ACE
DECLAN Morris, pictured, who will captain ACE tomorrow night, is not worried by the rain-hit start to this season.
ACE have played only two of their scheduled four games losing Premier League games at Grange and Brisbane Knights to the elements.
“Everyone’s in the same boat,” said the central defender, who will wear the captain’s armband in Cristian Sorbello’s absence against Acacia Ridge at Wolter Park, kick-off 6pm.
“It’s been tricky. There’s not much momentum which is a key at the start of a season when you need a good foundation. But we’re not the only team struggling. Most have only played one or two games.
“Everyone’s in the same boat. (Against Acacia Ridge….) we just need to make a good start, build on it and then hopefully feel the momentum growing.”
ACE have won both games this season beating The Gap 2-0 at Wolter Park in the Premier League and Bethania 6-3 on Tuesday

Historic night

Pre-season victory has given ACE confidence before landmark fixture
THE ACE Capital League 1 team, pictured, will be part of a small slice of club history on Friday night.
Their opening league fixture is part one of Wolter Park’s first women’s double header.
Following the ACE match against Pine Rivers Athletic (6.30pm) will be Moreton Bay United women against Lions (8.30pm) in the NPL Qld.
ACE enter Friday’s game with a new squad, in a new competition, three pre-season games and a coach with growing confidence.
“It is our first time in this competition and about half our squad is new,” said coach Matt van Daalen, “but after the Grange game I’m feeling confident.
“It was a good win (4-3) in a local derby against a good side. Some have said Grange will be the team to beat, so if that’s the case, it was a good performance.
“Numbers were an issue for us at one stage, we lost some players and
