SportsBox Lockers Now Available In Arana Hills

Residents in Arana Hills can now borrow sports equipment at a local park through a new SportsBox locker, providing easier access to recreational activities without needing personal gear.

SportsBox Introduced At Leslie Patrick Park

A SportsBox locker has been installed at Leslie Patrick Park in Arana Hills, allowing park users to borrow sports equipment for use on nearby courts. The locker provides on-site access to shared gear, supporting casual physical activity in a public setting.

The Arana Hills installation forms part of a wider rollout across the Moreton Bay area. Additional lockers are operating at Blatchford Reserve in Murrumba Downs and at Sandstone Point. In the Redland area, SportsBox lockers are already available at Beth Boyd Park and Raby Esplanade Park.

Equipment Tailored To Each Location

The equipment available through each SportsBox locker varies depending on the sporting facilities at the park. Items may include gear for basketball, table tennis, volleyball, pickleball or netball, allowing users to participate in different activities based on what is available on site.

The lockers are designed to remove barriers associated with owning or transporting sports equipment, particularly for people visiting parks on short notice.

Program Purpose And Delivery

The SportsBox program is delivered by People Being Active Pty Ltd and funded through the ActiveKIT Super Round. The initiative focuses on improving access to physical activity opportunities by making shared sports equipment available in community spaces.

Across Queensland, more than 20 lockers are planned, with the program expected to reach over 10,000 participants. Future installations are planned in regional locations including Mackay and Noosa.

School Holiday Use And Community Response

SportsBox has been promoted as a practical option for families during school holidays, offering a low-cost way to keep children active outdoors. No advance planning is required, and equipment can be borrowed directly at the park.

Online responses to the program have included strong support for improving access to sport, alongside questions about equipment return and long-term maintenance. These views reflect a mix of optimism and practical concerns commonly raised in public discussions.

What Comes Next

The rollout of SportsBox lockers is continuing across Queensland. In Arana Hills, the focus remains on encouraging community use while monitoring how the lockers operate over time.

Role(s) model

New signing Michael Kozielek gives ACE plenty of options
ACE appear to have four players in one with the signing of Michael Kozielek (pictured).
The 23 year old arrived at Wolter Park in March having played semi-professional football in Sweden.
After several weeks waiting for international clearance, he debuted against Centenary Stormers two weeks ago.
“Lately I’ve been in holding midfield and adventuring up to the (number) 10 (position),” said Kozielek.
But he can also play left back and was in central defence as ACE kept a clean sheet in the 1-0 win at Taringa on Sunday. “I was covering for Deccy (Declan Morris) who had the red card,” said Kozielek, originally from Chicago.
“I didn’t do to bad. I’m fortunate to have played in a few positions at pretty high level. It’s nice to be comfortable in a number of positions.”
Alongside Kozielek in central defence at Taringa was Sean Lewis, also from Chicago, who played a key role in his move.
Kozielek “grew up” in the Chicago Fire Academy, went to Butler University and then joined Nordvarmlands

Cup dream

Steve Glockner separates the cup dream from reality ahead of Strikers tie
ACE coach Steve Glockner is under no illusions about the challenge his side faces at Wolter Park tomorrow, kick-off 7.30pm.
The glamour of the FFA Cup has paired ACE with NPL Queensland side Brisbane Strikers.
“We are playing against very good team, two leagues above us,” said Glockner.
“To play Strikers and win would be wonderful. That’s a bit of a dream, that would be a beautiful night.
“We’re taking it one game at a time and our focus is on this match, but the reality for us is to keep doing well in the league and keep getting three points.”
Strikers were the 1997 National Soccer League (NSL) champions, 2016 NPL Queensland title winners and 2017 NPL Grand Finalists.
They started this season slowly, but are now in fourth after beating derby rivals Brisbane City 4-2 on Saturday. At the same time ACE came from 1-0 down to win 2-1 against Centenary Stormers.
The ACE coach is assessing his players’ fitness before naming the squad

Focus the key

We must play our game, says ACE striker ahead of Stormers clash
ACE have had to work hard for their last two victories – and it will not be any easier tomorrow night according to David Park.
Centenary Stormers arrive at Wolter Park (kick-off 6pm) unbeaten and third on the Premier League, one below ACE, who have a perfect record from three games.
The Darra-based side is also high on confidence after thrashing QPL side Holland Park 7-1 in the FFA Cup this week. Joseph Kleibo scored a hat-trick.
But striker David Park, who has scored twice in three league games this season, said it’s important ACE focus on their game – not the opposition.
“I have seen highlights (of Stormers),” he said, “they have good players upfront and midfield. Good players. We need to work hard.
“I think we (have to) play the right way. We need to focus on what we’ve done until now and try to play our game.
“Keep possession, move
